2 October (Day 11 Asian Games) — Republic of Korea closes esports with League of Legends gold

03 OCT 26

Republic of Korea defeated Chinese Taipei 3–0 in the League of Legends final, closing the esports programme with gold. The victory secured Republic of Korea’s second consecutive Asian Games title in the game, following its win at Hangzhou 2022. Saudi Arabia and Vietnam earned bronze.

The Republic of Korea roster included several prominent professional players, with Faker among the best-known names. His presence made the final especially anticipated by League of Legends fans. The team finished the competition unbeaten, and the 3–0 result gave Republic of Korea a decisive finish to its campaign.

League of Legends is a five-versus-five multiplayer online battle arena game. Teams select champions with different abilities, then coordinate across the map to secure objectives and destroy the opposing base. At international level, success depends on preparation and teamwork as much as individual mechanics: one well-timed team fight can change the direction of a match.

The final also brought the esports programme to a close after 11 medal events across 13 game titles. Over the preceding days, the competition had ranged from eFootball and racing to puzzle games, fighting games, battle royale and several team MOBAs. Republic of Korea’s last gold capped a varied programme and left Chinese Taipei with silver.

The event’s medal table was led by China, with three golds. Japan and the Republic of Korea each finished with two golds, while Malaysia claimed one. Across the competition, athletes from around the region shared the podium in a growing programme for esports at the Asian Games.

Medals awarded today: Republic of Korea gold; Chinese Taipei silver; Saudi Arabia and Vietnam bronze.
