AESF President Elected Into Legislative Council Of Hong Kong, China

President of The Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF), Mr Kenneth Fok has been elected into the 7th Legislative Council of Hong Kong for the Sports, Performing Arts, Culture and Publication functional constituency. 

 

One of the 30 functional constituencies contested in the 2021 Hong Kong, China, legislative election held on 19th December 2021, the Sports, Performing Arts, Culture and Publication is a functional constituency in the elections for the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, China and was first created in 1998.

 

The functions of the Legislative Council are to enact, amend or repeal laws; through examination and approval of budgets, taxation and public expenditure; and to raise questions on the work of the government. The constituency is composed of corporate members of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Hong Kong Sports Institute, Hong Kong Publishing Federation and other designated associations of performing arts, broadcasting and culture.

 

Mr Fok, alongside his role as the President of the AESF, has been active in several youth and sports-related establishments including his roles as Vice President of the Hong Kong Olympic Committee and Vice President of All-China Youth Federation amongst many others. As President of the AESF, he has led the AESF in overseeing the inclusion of esports at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in 2017, esports as a demonstration game at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta which was swiftly followed by esports debuting as a full-fledged medal sport at the 2019 SEA Games in Manila. In 2022, esports will again create history as it makes its debut as a full-fledged medal sport to the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. 

 

Commenting on his election win, Mr. Fok said “I am honored and humbled to receive the trust and mandate of voters from my constituency. As a Legislative Council Member for the Sports, Performing Arts, Culture, and Publication, I will not only lobby for better policies and support from our government for sports and culture but pledge to work closely with all our stakeholders to improve everyone’s livelihood’. 

 

In response to questions on esports, Mr. Fok commented that he is proud to lead Asian Electronic Sports Federation in these exciting times and is looking forward to electronic sports finally being a medal event at the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games. ‘Technology will aid the transformation of sports to the new era, and I am happy to be part of this exciting development’ he added.
