27 February 2024, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – The Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) has successfully renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) today. This renewal signifies a commitment to strengthen engagement and optimize mutual benefits in fostering and developing broadcast and Esports initiatives. The signing ceremony was held at the IPPTAR Building Angkasapuri between Mr. Sebastian Lau, AESF Director General, and Mr. Ahmed Nadeem, ABU Secretary-General.

The MoU reaffirms the strategic partnership between AESF and ABU, extending beyond co-hosting events and sessions, such as forums and workshops, to creating and promoting Esports-related content. Furthermore, it elevates the partnership to a new level by ABU joining the AESF Partnership Commission as a member.

AESF and ABU will also collaborate on joint programs, including the organization of charity-based or social responsibility-based competitions. These initiatives align with AESF's program, 'Your Home Your Arena,' aiming to promote goodwill and community engagement, among other collaboration areas.

MoU signed and sealed.

Over the past five years, AESF and ABU have collaborated, and AESF took part in the 65th ABU Sports Group Conference & Associated Meetings. AESF actively engaged in the Esports Forum, contributing to discussions on major tournaments, the Esports landscape, and its promising future as one of the rapidly expanding sports. In addition, AESF organized Esports demonstration games during the event.

Mr. Sebastian Lau, AESF Director General, remarked, “The renewal of this Memorandum of Understanding between AESF and ABU marks another significant milestone in further elevating our partnership, especially as AESF has recently introduced our Partnership Commission as part of our initiatives to strengthen relations with important stakeholders for the benefit of the Esports community. We are pleased that ABU is realizing this initiative. Furthermore, we look forward to learning from ABU, a well-established organization, especially regarding its overall structure and management as a non-profit organization, as well as enhancing knowledge sharing and future collaboration between our organizations.”

Mr. Ahmed Nadeem, ABU Secretary-General, commented, “At ABU, we recognize the immense potential of Esports as a powerful platform for fostering community engagement and promoting goodwill. Through our renewed partnership with AESF, we aim to harness the power of broadcasting by exploring new avenues for collaboration, including joint programs and charity-based competitions, that will not only showcase the spirit of competition but also contribute to positive social impact. We look forward to working closely with AESF to advance our mutual goals and contribute to the growth and prosperity of the broadcasting and Esports industries.”

The AESF is excited about the opportunities that this renewed partnership will bring to the Esports community and the broader broadcasting industry in the Asia-Pacific region.
